Power Cable

Power Cable

Power cables are used for transmitting and distributing electrical energy. They are commonly employed in urban underground grids, power station outgoing lines, internal power supply for industrial and mining enterprises, as well as submarine and river-crossing transmission lines. The proportion of cables in power lines is gradually increasing. Power cables are products designed to transmit and distribute high-power electricity within the main lines of power systems, covering voltage levels from 1 kV to 500 kV and above, with various insulation types.

The basic structure of a power cable consists of four parts: the core (conductor), insulation layer, shielding layer, and protective sheath.

Description

Key Advantages

  1. Space-Saving: Typically buried underground or installed indoors, in trenches, or tunnels, with small insulation distances between lines. No pylons are required, minimizing above-ground space usage.

  2. High Reliability: Less affected by climate conditions and environmental factors, ensuring stable transmission performance and high reliability.

  3. Favorable Conditions for Development: Suitable for advancing toward ultra-high voltage and large capacity, such as low-temperature and superconducting power cables.

  4. Large Distributed Capacitance.

  5. Low Maintenance Requirements.

  6. Reduced Risk of Electric Shock.

Classification by Voltage Level

  1. Low-voltage cables: Suitable for fixed installation in AC 50Hz/60Hz power transmission and distribution lines with rated voltages up to 3 kV.

  2. Medium-low voltage cables (generally 35 kV and below): PVC insulated cables, polyethylene insulated cables, cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables, etc.

  3. High-voltage cables (generally 110 kV and above): Polyethylene cables and cross-linked polyethylene insulated cables, etc.

  4. Ultra-high voltage cables (275–800 kV).

  5. Extra-high voltage cables (1000 kV and above).
